 Archeology

  • Partial re-opening of the library: The library provides a small number of workspaces subject to previous registration. A maximum of 4 people are permitted to be within one and the same room at any given time. Visits are possible Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm.  Biology und Biotechnology


 Chemistry and Biochemistry

  • Work spaces for theses: 16 work spaces are available in the departmental library from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, for students working on their thesis or term paper. Please contact us.
  • Work spaces for one day have to be reserved via email.
  • Lending: The borrowing of books is possible if there is no electronic version available. Please arrange an appointment via email for the literature you need. Regrettably books from the reference section won't be handed out for immediate use until further notice.
  • The loan period for books from the departmental library has been extended to the 30.9.2020.

 Development Research and Development Policy (IEE)

  • The library is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, but can only be visited with a previously arranged appointment, subject to conditions. Click here for further information.

 East Asian Studies

  • Lending: Students and staff of the Faculty of East Asian Studies can order up to 6 books from the holdings of the library by booking an appointment here ["Zur Buchung" => "Buchbestellung aus der OAW-Bibliothek"]. You can collect the ordered items on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 1.30 pm and 3.45 pm at the issuing location 4 (Window on the rear of the CENTRAL LIBRARY, right, direction G-buildings). The loan period for newly borrowed books is two months until regular service is resumed. Borrowed books can only be sent back via mail.
  • The library participates in the Scan-Service of the RUB libraries to continue to provide access to the printed media.
  • Books on loan can be kept until the library opens again or you can send them back via mail.

 Economics, GD-Library

  • Work spaces: Starting on the 19th of October 2020 students of the Faculty of Economics currently writing their bachelor's or master's thesis can reserve a dedicated work space. Please register via email to wiwi-bibl (at) rub.de or personally at the information desk of the library. A total of 80 work spaces are available which can be used within the opening times valid during the partial re-opening of the library (see below). The allocation of the work spaces will be handled according to the order of receipt of registrations.
  • Partial re-opening of the library: Starting on the 2nd of July 2020 students and staff of the Faculty of Economics are allowed to use the Library with limited services. The Library of Economics is open for borrowing and copying:
    - Tuesday from 8 am to 8 pm
    - Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm
    - Friday from 12 pm (noon) to 8 pm
    Each student can borrow up to 10 books for a period of 14 days.

  • Scan service: Students studying economy can request scans of journal articles or book chapters via email if they are currently writing their bachelor's or master's thesis or a term paper. Click here [German] for details and the required request form.
  • The libray offers help with your literature search via phone from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. Phone:  0234 / 32 - 22912 if you have questions concerning the search for relevant literature in economics.

 Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

  • Work spaces: 15 work spaces are available in the library, starting on the 1st of September. Please contact lernraum-id@rub.de to register for a space.
  • Loan and return of books: Limited loan and return of printed media is possible Monday to Friday 9 am to 2 pm with these conditions and precautions:
    - Please reserve the books via email.
    - For issuing and returning books you get an appointment via email.
    - Entering the library is only allowed with a mask.
    - Using the library is only possible for unaccompanied individuals.
    - Your stay in the library for borrowing or returning books is limited to 15 minutes.

 German Studies (IDF)

  • On Wednesdays you can borrow books (low-contact) from 12 pm (noon) to 2 pm. Please order the books you need via email. The loan period is one week.

 IPA, Institute for Prevention and Occupational Medicine

  • The library is open again. Please make an appointment by telephone or by email.
  • If you need individual articles from the open stacks of the library, you can order the documents via email. The articles will be delivered in electronic form.

 Joint Library GA

Subjects Art History, Educational Science, History and Philosophy

  • The library participates in the Scan-Service of the RUB libraries to continue to provide the access to the printed media.
  • The Joint Library GA offers lending under conditions of reduced contact from week 21 on. A maximum of 5 books can be borrowed for 2 weeks. Please write an email first and tell us your preferred time of collection.
  • The emergency service of the Joint Library GA is at your disposal until further notice
    - Tuesday from 10 am to 2 pm
    - Thursday from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm

 Joint Library IB

Subjects Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Psychology

  • Work spaces: The Joint Library IB offers 47 work spaces bookable on a weekly basis plus 13 work spaces bookable on a daily basis. The spaces can be used Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3.30 pm. Find available appointments in our booking system.
    The appointments for the following week are published at 10 am each Monday and can be booked until Thursday 2 pm. If you want to cancel a booking after Thursday or if you aren't able to come on a specific day please send us a message.

  • The Joint Library IB participates in the Scan-Service of the RUB libraries to continue to provide the access to the printed media.
  • Loan: Students and staff of the RUB can order books from the stocks of the Joint Library IB. You have to make an appointment. You can pick up the books at "Issuing location 4" (Window on the rear of the CENTRAL LIBRARY, right, direction G-buildings). For more information click here.
  • Returning books: You can return books from the holdings of the Joint Library IB Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm at the CENTRAL LIBRARY: Please put the books into the book drop box at the glass door of the wheelchair entrance next to the revolving door on the left of the building.

 Joint Library IC

Subjects Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

  • Work spaces in the library: From Monday, the 31st of August you can book 15 study and work spaces. These are available solely for students of the RUB. The spaces can be booked on a daily basis and can be used from Monday to Friday (according to the booked day) from 9 am to 2 pm.

  • Loan of books: If you need books from the Joint Library IC, please write an email. You can pick up the books at the issuing locations (windows on the ground floor) of the Central Library.
  • Returning books: You can return books from the holdings of the Joint Library IC Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm at the CENTRAL LIBRARY: Please put the books into the book drop box at the glass door of the wheelchair entrance next to the revolving door on the left of the building.

 Law (ZRS), GD-Library

  • Basic operations under Covid-19 conditions [German]
  • Work spaces for students of law at the RUB: Starting on the 19.8.2020 the ZRS will provide 100 work spaces which can be booked using this booking system. The following time slots are available:
    - Monday 8 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 7 pm
    - Wednesday 8 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 7 pm
    - Friday 8 am to 11.45 am
    Please read up on the booking conditions and terms of use [German] of the library beforehand.
  • Work spaces for exam preparation The ZRS provides 50 work spaces for students of the RUB preparing for their final law exam which can be booked using this booking system. The following time slots are available:
    - Monday 8 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 7 pm
    - Wednesday 8 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 7 pm
    - Friday 8 am to 11.45 am

  • Saturday service: On Saturdays all members of the RUB are allowed to enter the ZRS for one hour within the time period from 8 am to 5 pm. Additionally PhD students (also non RUB members) can get a dedicated work space on Saturdays. Click here for further information on using the ZRS on Saturdays [German].
  • Scan service: Students belonging to the law faculty can order up to 2 articles or parts of the ZRS holdings per week provided there is no electronic access to those sources. The amount of pages per scan is limited to 20. Please send your scan request to zrs-info@rub.de stating your name and student ID card number.   • All e-media resources of the Law (ZRS), GD-Library
  • Expansion of ebook resources
    Because of the Corona situation the ZRS has expanded its ebook resources. Therefore the database beck-eLibrary has been bought for one year (from March 2020). It contains works of the publishers C.H. BECK LSW, C.H. Beck RSW, Haufe, MWV, Schäffer-Poeschel, UVK, Vahlen and Versus.
    You have access via the RUB's VPN-Tunnel of the RUB.
  • Access to Juris via VPN
    Access to the Juris database (Juris Spectrum, Juris Staudinger and the Hochschulmodul) is also immediately possible for RUB students VPN-Tunnel (please use in additon the LoginID.bib). The VPN is also necessary for other databases (for example Wolters Kluwer).
  • Return of books which you have borrowed over the weekend
    The return of these books is not possible. There will be no fees from the ZRS. Please ignore emails or mail concerning this, they are invalid until further notice. Please note that this only concerns ZRS-Media.

 Medical ethics and history of medicine

  • The library is open according to the operations under Covid-19 conditions. Access is only possible with an appointment and in compliance with the hygiene rules. Please use our contact form [German] to arrange an appointment.

 Medicine


 Philology

  • From the 3rd of August you can gain entry to the Departmental Library of the Faculty of Philology via the entrance on the 5th floor, north. After registering via email you can stay for up to one hour to browse, copy or borrow books. The number of loans is limited to 10 items with a loan period of up to two weeks.
    Your registration email has to arrive before noon on the previous day, the following time slots are available:
    - Monday 10 am to 11 am and 11.30 am to 12.30 pm
    - Tuesday 2 pm to 3 pm and 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm
    - Wednesday 9 am to 10 am and 10.30 am to 11.30 am
    - Thursday 12 pm to 1 pm and 1.30 pm 2.30 pm
    Detailed access modalities can be found on the Homepage of the Library [German]. The service is available for members of the RUB, students of the TU Dortmund as well as the University Duisburg-Essen and holders of a library card of the Central Library of the RUB.
  • If you only need a journal article or a book chapter (of up to 20 pages), please use the scan service of the RUB libraries. (Only for literature unavailable in the Central Library.)

 Physics and Astronomy

  • Work spaces: According to the general rules set by the rectorate and dean's office the departmental library will offer 16 single work spaces for enrolled students of physics, starting on the 1st of September. You can book a space for a single day (Monday to Friday), available time slots either 10 am to 2 pm or 2 pm to 6 pm, via Moodle. Find further information on the homepage of the library [German].

 Social Sciences

  • Partial re-opening of the library: From 2 July 2020 on, limited use of the Library of Social Sciences by students and staff of the faculty is possible again. Entry into the library for the purposes of borrowing books or copying literature is permitted during the following times:
    - Tuesdays from 8 am to 8 pm
    - Thursdays from 8 am to 8 pm
    - Friday from 12 pm (noon) to 8 pm
    Lending to students is limited to 10 books per person for a maximum duration of a fortnight. Further information regarding the partial re-opening of the library is available on the Homepage of the library [German] or contact the librarians.
  • Scan-Service: Students of social sciences who are currently writing their Bachelor or Master Thesis are entitled to submitting three requests for scanning per week to scandienst-sowi (at) rub.de.  Sport Science

  • The library can be visited under reduced operation modalities from
    - Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm.
    A maximum of 5 students are permitted to briefly visit the library simultaneously for the purposes of borrowing or returning books. Furthermore, 4 rooms are available, in which one person each can study subject to prior registration by email. Please refer to the Homepage of the Library for information regarding the exact modalities of use.

 Theology

  • Borrowing and returning books: Students and staff from the Theological Faculty have the option of borrowing books from the library. A maximum of 5 books per person can be borrowed for a week. Orders for books can be placed using a form. An appointment for returning books can be made via telephone or email.   • The library takes part in the Scan-Service of the RUB libraries in order to maintain access to its holdings for its users.
  • Temporary limited access to the Theological Library: The Theological Faculty offers 3 workspaces to students from the Protestant or Catholic Faculties, who are writing their thesis in these subjects. Prior registration is required. Use of these workspaces is possible Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm (noon) and 12.30 to 3.30 pm. For further information, please contact us by email or phone.  Library of the Ruhr
