 Archeology

  • Work spaces:The library provides a small number of workspaces for members of the Institute of Archaeological Studies subject to previous registration. Please check the Homepage of the Library [German] for information on the exact conditions or contact the librarian.
  • The library also offers a scan service in compliance with the copyright law and the loan of up to 5 books for members of the Institute of Archaeological Studies.

 East Asian Studies

  • Borrowing and returning books: From the 6th of September 2021 students and staff of the Faculty of East Asian Studies can do so in the library during these opening times:
    - Tuesday and Thursday from 11 am to 4 pm
    Up to six people are allowed to be in the library at any given time. Each user can stay for up to one hour.
  • Work spaces: The library offers six work spaces for students of the Faculty of East Asian Studies which can be booked on a daily basis. The spaces are available on the following days and have to booked in advance:
    Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 am to 4 pm

 Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

  • Loan and return of books: Limited loan and return of printed media is possible Monday to Friday 11 am to 4.30 pm with the follwing measures in place:
    - Entering the library is only allowed with a mask.
    - Using the library is only possible for unaccompanied individuals.
    - Your stay in the library - solely for borrowing or returning books - is limited to 20 minutes.
    - Please contact us via email or phone for loan renewals.

 German Studies (IDF)

  • Update 10.3.2021: Please note that the library has recently moved again. New location is  GB 04/47-49.
  • Lending: On Wednesdays you can borrow books (low-contact) from 12 pm (noon) to 2 pm. Please order the books you need via email. The loan period is one week.

 IPA, Institute for Prevention and Occupational Medicine

  • The library is open. Please make an appointment by telephone or by email.
  • If you need individual articles from the open stacks of the library, you can order the documents via email. The articles will be delivered in electronic form.

 Joint Library GA

Subjects Art History, Educational Science, History and Philosophy

  • The library participates in the Scan-Service of the RUB libraries to continue to provide the access to the printed media.
  • Visiting the library: From the 20th of September 2021 students and staff of the RUB can access the Joint Library GA after booking an appointment by clicking on the button "Terminbuchung" on the library's homepage during our opening times:
    - Monday to Thursday: 10 am to 4 pm
    Each person can book a one hour stay per day, up to 30 people are allowed to be present in the library at any given time. When entering the library you’ll have to present a negative official Corona test result issued by an approved test centre (no self-test) or proof that you are fully vaccinated or have recently recovered from a Corona infection. You will also have to present a valid ID, either your student ID card or your personal ID card plus semester ticket/certificate of enrollment.
    Borrowing books is possible whenever the library is open:
    - Students can borrow up to 5 books for one week
    - Staff can borrow up to 10 books for 4 weeks

  • Visiting the library:
    Opening times:
    - Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm
    - Friday from 9 am to 4 pm
    Up to 90 people are allowed to be in the library at any given time. You can borrow and return books as well as copy and scan from the library's holdings on site again. Designated study places are also available, no booking required.

 Joint Library IC

  • Visiting the library:
    Opening times:
    - Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm
    Up to 16 people are allowed to be in the library at any given time. You can borrow and return books as well as copy from the library's holdings on site again. Designated study places are also available, no booking required.

 Law (ZRS), GD-Library

  • Basic operations under Covid-19 conditions [German]
  • Work spaces for students of law at the RUB: Starting on the 21.08.2021 the ZRS will provide 245 work spaces which can be booked using this booking system. The following time slots are available:
    - Monday and Wednesday 8 am to 10 pm
    - Friday 8 am to 11.45 am
  • Work spaces for exam preparation The ZRS provides 45 work spaces for students of the RUB preparing for their final law exam which can be booked using this booking system. The following time slots are available:
    - Monday and Wednesday 8 am to 10 pm
    - Friday 8 am to 11.45 am
  • Saturday service: On Saturdays all members of the RUB are allowed to enter the ZRS for one hour during the opening times from 8 am to 5 pm. All members of the RUB law faculty can book a work space here. External PhD students who are doing their doctorate at a chair of the RUB Law Faculty can also get a dedicated work space on Saturdays.   • Access conditions for the Law Library
    When entering the library you’ll have to present a negative official Corona test result issued (within the previous 48 hours) by an approved test centre (no self-test). Alternatively you can provide proof that you are fully vaccinated or have recently recovered from a Corona infection.
  • Scan service: All members of the law faculty can order articles or excerpts of the ZRS holdings provided there is no access to the electronic versions of these sources. You can order complete journal articles as well as up to 10% from a book (according to copyright law: UrhG, § 60e, Abs. 5). Repeated orders from the same book adding up to more than 10% are a breach of copyright and therefore inadmissible. Please send your scan request to zrs-info@rub.de stating your name and student ID card number or the faculty chair. Please make sure you provide detailed bibliographic data such as author, title, pages as well as the ZRS library shelf mark. Click here for further information on the scan service [German].
  • All e-media resources of the Law (ZRS) Library
  • Access to the beck-eLibrary
    Because of the Corona situation the ZRS has expanded its ebook resources. Therefore the license for the database beck-eLibrary has been extended until the 31st of March 2022. It contains works of the publishers C.H. BECK LSW, C.H. Beck RSW, Haufe, MWV, Schäffer-Poeschel, UVK, Vahlen and Versus. The eLibrary that you have access to via the RUB's VPN tunnel particularly also includes legal textbooks.
  • Access to Juris via VPN
    As of now RUB students can access the Juris database (Juris Spectrum, Juris Staudinger and the Hochschulmodul) via the VPN tunnel. The tunnel also provides access to other databases such as Wolters Kluwer).

  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 5 pm
    Up to 50 people are allowed to be in library at any given time. 3G proof is required. Detailed access modalities can be found on the Homepage of the Library [German].
  • Borrowing items: The number of loans is limited to 10 items with a loan period of up to two weeks.
  • If you only need a journal article or a book chapter (up to 10% of the book), please use the Scan Service.

 Physics and Astronomy


 Social Sciences

  • The 3G rule applies: when entering the library, proof of complete vaccination / recovery or a negative corona rapid test must be presented. Mouth and nose protection must also be worn
  • Students of the Faculty of Social Science who are currently writing their bachelor's or master's thesis can work at a fixed, assigned workstation in the library
  • Our opening times:
    Mondays to Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    To avoid contact the ordering service for borrowing books is still set up:

    at. A maximum of 10 books (not magazines) can be ordered. The loan period is 14 days
  • Collection: You can collect the ordered titles from the library on the following opening day or after notification by email. After entering the faculty library, please contact the information desk directly. There you will receive the books with as little contact as possible
  • Scan service: Members of the Faculty of Social Science can order three scan jobs per week at scandienst-sowi (at) rub .de submit. You can find more information about the scan service on the homepage of the library .

 Sport Science

  • Opening concept of the library of sports science 10/11/2021:
  • Return to regular opening times:
    Mon- Thu 9:00 am-5:45pm
    Friday 9:00 am - 3:45 pm
  • There is no user registration at the entrance.
  • 3G (2G vignette) is checked by staff when entering the library.
  • Return to the reference library:
    Night borrowing possible from Monday to Thursday from 5 p.m., return from the following day by 10 a.m. Friday loan from 10 a.m. until the following Monday 10 a.m. (max. 5 books) These will be given back by the employees when they are returned.
  • Work rooms as well as individual workplaces can be used without booking. (2 users per room) (8 workstations)
  • Open jobs are at a distance (14 jobs). Pay attention to regular ventilation.
  • There is no mask requirement in the work rooms / at the workplaces.
  • There is no scan service, the copier is accessible.

 Theology

  • Work spaces: The library offers a limited amount of individually assigned work spaces to students of the Faculties of Theology, who are writing their bachelor's or master's thesis in these subjects, during the current opening times. Proof of a negative Corona test, completed vaccination or recovery from a Corona infection is necessary
  • Borrowing and returning books: Students and staff of the Theological Faculty have the option of borrowing books from the library. A maximum of 5 books per person can be borrowed for a week. Orders for books can be placed using a form. An appointment for returning books can be made via telephone or email.   • The library takes part in the Scan-Service of the RUB libraries in order to maintain access to its holdings for its users.

 Library of the Ruhr

  • The Library of the Ruhr offers a limited service. Loan, return and interlibrary loan are possible subject to certain precautions. Click here for further information or contact the librarians.
